JRS/USA Responds to U.S. Retreat from Global Compact on Migration

Washington, D.C., 3 December 2017 - On Saturday, December 2, 2017, the Trump Administration announced it would no longer participate in the Global Compact on Migration – a critical process for safe, orderly, and regular migration around the world.

In response to this announcement, David Robinson, Jesuit Refugee Service/USA’s Executive Director stated the following:

“We are saddened and disappointed at the Administration’s decision to retreat from the United Nations Global Compact on Migration, turning its back on life-saving cooperation with other nations. The Jesuit Refugee Service/USA is committed to Pope Francis’s vision of the full embrace of migrants and refugees – to welcome, to protect, to promote, and to integrate them – and to global cooperation that works towards this vision. We encourage everyone, especially those compelled by the teachings of the Church and of the Holy Father, to join in building compassion and welcoming for migrants and refugees.”
