Any Refugee

Postcards of Hope

Jesuit Refugee Service/USA and Any Refugee partner to connect children in the U.S. with refugee children around the world by delivering messages of hope and solidarity through postcards. Children in the U.S. are encouraged to write postcards to their counterparts across the globe and JRS/USA will facilitate sending the postcards to the children that it serves.

Writing postcards is a simple and fun way to show love and support for refugees around the world. Everyone, regardless of age, can participate! Just follow the three steps below.

  1. Write a postcard, draw a picture or both! Create a message of hope and comfort to let a refugee know that others are thinking of them and wishing them a better future.

Tips for writing your postcard:

      • Keep your card simple. Sometimes just a short note and a drawing can be perfect.
      • Aim for a message that will be well-received across any demographic, avoiding references that are specific to one religion, culture, or nationality.
      • Refrain from including phrases such as “Welcome to America” since the recipient will be enrolled in a JRS program outside of the U.S.
      • Add something personal from your life.
  1. Send your postcard to:

Feel free to bundle cards in a package. You do not need to pay for postage on every card.

  1. JRS/USA will deliver your card to a refugee child enrolled in JRS programs around the world.

William Scannell IV, a JRS supporter, started the Any Refugee project in 2014. He was inspired by a story his dad told him about how people could to send letters addressed to Any Soldier. William took this idea and applied it to reaching out to refugee children, with the hope of sending them a message of support and comfort.

“My trip to Lebanon was very cool and I will never forget it. I met children who had lost their mother or father or who had been out of school for a long time. They were happy and surprised to read our postcards and to know that we care, ” said William.

Through this partnership with JRS/USA, Any Refugee continues to reach refugee children across the globe. To learn more, visit anyrefugee.org.
