Last Week President-Elect Biden Committed to Welcome – Now, Urge Congress to Act!

17 November 2020

Last Thursday, President-elect Biden delivered a message to JRS supporters in honor of our 40th Anniversary. In this message, he stated:

The Biden-Harris Administration will restore America’s historic role in protecting the vulnerable and defending the rights of refugees everywhere… we’re safer, stronger, and a better country because of their contributions.

We’re hopeful that the incoming Biden-Harris Administration will take steps to welcome and protect refugees around the world and within our borders next year, but right now Congress is considering funding bills that will have an impact on their ability to do so.

Funding for Fiscal Year 2021 expires on December 11 and includes support for critical humanitarian and refugee assistance programs that meet the basic needs of displaced persons, including access to food, water, shelter, healthcare, and education. It also includes funding for the U.S. resettlement program and resources for local communities to help refugees integrate and thrive.

As we confront the worst displacement crisis in history and the global COVID-19 pandemic, it is vital that Congress support and pass robust funding for refugees, asylees, and other displaced populations.

Please take action today!
