Program Coordinator

The mission of Jesuit Refugee Service/USA (JRS/USA) is to accompany, serve, and advocate for refugees and forcibly displaced persons. JRS works in more than 50 countries worldwide to meet the educational, health, psycho-social and emergency needs of more than 730,000 refugees and other forcibly displaced persons regardless of race, ethnic origin or religious beliefs.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Program Coordinator will support the daily operations of the Program Department, including grants management, compliance oversight, and general project management and administrative support. The Program Coordinator will also assist with proposal development, programmatic and financial reporting, and tracking overseas grant funding. The Program Coordinator must be capable of making independent judgments to determine appropriate courses of action, and must take initiative in performing job duties. 

Responsibilities

  • Monitors compliance for U.S. Government overseas cooperative agreements and provides advice on donor compliance issues, with some international travel required.
  • Supports proposal development and grant cycle management for U.S. Government cooperative agreements and contracts.
  • Reviews all quarterly program and financial reports for quality and accuracy for U.S. Government-funded programs.
  • Serves as point of contact for all domestic programming, including Department of Homeland Security-funded National Detention Project.
  • Handles administrative tasks for the Program Department, including supporting travel arrangements, preparing documentation for contracts and cooperative agreements, and managing filing systems for overseas program funding.
  • Collates and reviews program and financial reports for private donors.
  • Stays regularly up to date on federal regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Supports coordination with the Finance Department, supports cash flow management and expenditure tracking for overseas programming.
  • Supports coordination with the Development Department to identify programs for funding proposals and support proposal development and tracking of private grants.
  • Assists with determining program funding priorities and managing grant funding cycles for overseas programming.
  • Disseminates information about overseas programming to other JRS/USA departments.
  • Carries out any other tasks as assigned by the Director of Programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, International Development, Economics, Political Science, Business Administration, or other related field.At least 2-4 years of professional experience, preferably related to emergency relief or international development or with a non-governmental organization.
  • Solid knowledge of, and experience working with, institutional donors, including during the contracting and award management process, or willingness to learn. Experience with U.S. Department of State, USAID or Department of Homeland Security strongly preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking skills used to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to communicate and develop key working relationships remotely with international colleagues in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in a clear, positive manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively among competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction.
  • Solid computer skills for word processing, databases, spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Strong writing skills for proposals and program reports. 
  • Excellent written and verbal language skills in English required.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or French is preferred.
