Join Jesuit Refugee Service/USA this September for Tap into Mission—an evening of conversation, networking, and community. Meet others connected to Jesuit and Catholic life over drinks, and hear directly from Michael Petro, S.J., a Project Director for JRS Lebanon, about the challenges and hope of accompanying refugees in the Middle East.

Displacement is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Through Tap into Mission, attendees will have the chance to gather in community, hear first-hand stories from the frontlines of JRS’s work in Lebanon, and explore how faith can be lived out through solidarity and action.

Meet Michael Petro, S.J.

Fr. Michael Petro, S.J. | JRS Lebanon Country Director. Tap into Mission to learn more about the work of JRS in the Middle East

Michael Petro, S.J., is project director for JRS’s new programs with migrant workers and minority refugees in Beirut. He is a Jesuit in formation from the USA East Province and grew up in the Boston area. His ministry has focused on accompanying displaced persons in contexts from parishes to migrant shelters and resettlement.

Michael holds a degree in anthropology from Brown University and in social philosophy from Loyola Chicago. His ongoing scholarship focuses on ethics, forms of power and care in humanitarian contexts, and the ways we place and overcome limits on recognizing our shared humanity.

Everyone is welcome! Whether you’re connected to Jesuit or Catholic communities or simply interested in learning more about the mission of Jesuit Refugee Service, you are invited to join.

Is there a cost to attend?
No. Attendance is free, though space is limited. Drinks will be available for purchase at each host venue.

Do I need to register in advance?
Yes, advance registration is required. Please use the RSVP form for your city (Washington, Boston, or New York) to confirm your spot.

Who is Michael Petro, S.J.?
Michael Petro, S.J., is a Project Director for Jesuit Refugee Service Lebanon. He leads programs that provide education, psychosocial support, and emergency assistance to refugee families in the region.

What is Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)?
Jesuit Refugee Service is an international Catholic organization with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for refugees and forcibly displaced people. JRS works in 58  countries, including Lebanon, where communities face ongoing challenges due to displacement and economic instability.
