This joint statement from Jesuit Refugee Service Asia Pacific and the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network warns that Myanmar’s displacement crisis is worsening amid illegitimate elections, ongoing military violence, and collapsing civilian protections. Nearly 3.6 million people are internally displaced, while more than 200,000 have fled to neighboring countries since the 2021 military takeover.

The statement highlights escalating airstrikes, forced conscription, attacks on health care and education, and widespread human rights violations. It calls on regional and global actors — including ASEAN, United Nations, and international accountability bodies — to reject military-controlled electoral processes, strengthen refugee protections, uphold non-refoulement, and support justice mechanisms.

The document urges coordinated humanitarian, diplomatic, and legal action to prevent further displacement and protect civilians across the region.
