Hospitality in Action: Building Communities of Welcome

In a time when many people feel isolated, overwhelmed, or unsure where they belong, hospitality offers a different path: one rooted in encounter, relationship, and community.

Join Fr. Alberto Ares, SJ, author of Hospitality at the Heart of Spirituality: Being an Open Door to the Stranger, for a conversation on what it means to become people and communities that others experience as places of welcome. Drawing from years of accompanying refugees and migrants around the world, Alberto will explore how hospitality can move beyond a kind gesture to become a way of living, relating, and building a more connected world.

The conversation will then turn to local leaders from Pastoral Migratoria and Loyola University Chicago, who will share how hospitality takes shape in neighborhoods, parishes, classrooms, and campus life. Together, they will reflect on the ways ordinary people can create spaces of belonging, accompaniment, and hope.

Open to students, faculty, community partners, and anyone interested in building stronger, more welcoming communities.

Whether you are already involved in migration and community engagement or simply looking for ways to foster deeper connection where you live, study, and serve, this event will offer inspiration, practical examples, and an invitation to consider: How can each of us become an open door for others?
