The current situation at the U.S.-Mexico border is concerning, with restrictive U.S. asylum policies exacerbating protection challenges in Mexico. Simultaneously, this report delves into the complexities of CBP One™ and explores the perceived necessities of migrants along the border and migration routes within Mexico.

On May 9, 2024, JRS/USA and Dr. Alejandro Olayo-Méndez, S.J. discussed findings from the recent report, “Navigating the US-Mexico Border: Digital Practices of Migrants and Their Psychosocial Needs.” Speakers also discussed policy recommendations to improve CBP One™ and processing at US ports of entry along the southern border.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Alejandro Olayo-Méndez, S.J., author of the report and Professor of Social Work at Boston College School of Social Work
  • Giulia McPherson, JRS/USA Vice President of Advocacy and Operations
  • Josh Utter, JRS/USA Advocacy Officer
