Jesuit Refugee Service/USA on the Not “Big Beautiful Bill”
04 July 2025|Jesuit Refugee Service/USA
In response to final passage of the bill formerly known as “The One Big Beautiful Bill” Act, Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)/USA President Kelly Ryan said:
“When enacted, this law will irreparably harm tens of millions of people.
“Rather than promoting the common good, it takes assistance from poor Americans and prioritizes billions more in enforcement dollars at the Southwest border – when the border is fixed.
“It imposes punitive fees on humanitarian immigration applications.
“It will take food from up to 250,000 lawfully present immigrants, including 50,000 children.
“It slashes refugee assistance funding used to stabilize people in crisis, including by reducing pressures for onward migration and lethal journeys.
“Additionally, it will dismantle lifesaving, global humanitarian programs that give support to families displaced by war, violence, and climate disaster.
“No one wins when so many are punished and denied the opportunity to thrive. Americans deserve better.”
