Stop the Cuts
Urge the Senate to Protect Refugee Assistance and Reject H.R. 1
Congress is considering devastating cuts to U.S. refugee programs. Join Jesuit Refugee Service/USA in urging the United States Senate to stop harmful funding rescissions and punitive immigration measures embedded in H.R. 1.
URGENT! Senate Moving Fast — Petition Deadline is June 30
The House has passed H.R. 1—the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”—which includes proposals to:
-
Rescind $1.3 billion from critical refugee assistance accounts, including:
-
$496 million from International Disaster Assistance (IDA)
-
$800 million from Migration and Refugee Assistance (MRA)
-
-
Dramatically increase immigration application fees for asylum seekers and humanitarian cases
-
Cut SNAP and public benefits for immigrants
-
Direct $168 billion to immigration enforcement—even as unlawful border crossings hit near-record lows
These proposals directly threaten the U.S. refugee resettlement program, which has protected over 3 million people since 1980. They target vulnerable communities, undermine public-private humanitarian partnerships, and betray America’s values of compassion and leadership.
