Ricci Residence Program
A Jesuit Refugee Service Global Internship Experience
What is the Ricci Residence Program?
The Ricci Residence Program offers an immersive internship opportunity for college seniors and graduates up to five years out of undergraduate studies to serve alongside Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) teams around the world. Residents will be embedded in one of the organization’s country offices, where they will engage directly in activities and administrative support like:
- Programming in education and livelihoods, advocacy, peace-building, and support for community integration
- Fundraising
- Communications and storytelling
The Ricci Residence Program is designed to cultivate globally minded leaders rooted in the Jesuit values of accompaniment and service. Recognizing the inherent dignity of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons, and their agency, our model in all activities is “being with rather than doing for.” Participants will gain hands-on experience with humanitarian work while deepening their understanding of the realities faced by refugees and forcibly displaced people.
Why “Ricci”?
The program is named in honor of Matteo Ricci, S.J. (1552–1610), a Jesuit missionary and scholar known for his cross-cultural engagement, intellectual exchange, and deep respect for the people and cultures he encountered. Fr. Ricci, and this namesake program, embody the Jesuit faith and justice mission through humble and respectful service in solidarity with persons from different cultures and nationalities. Just as Ricci bridged continents through mutual understanding, participants in the Ricci Residence Program will serve as companions and learners in diverse cultural contexts, working toward a more inclusive and compassionate world.
