Aisha lived with her family, including her 4 year old daughter, Mahira, in Pakistan. Aisha and her husband worked and were active in their community. One night, a neighbor ran to tell Aisha her husband and brother had both been murdered by the Taliban. Knowing she and her daughter’s lives were also under threat, she packed up and fled.

After arriving, Aisha met Fr. Maurice from Jesuit Refugee Service Greece.

With the JRS shelter full and nowhere else safe to live in Athens with Mahira, Fr. Maurice decided he could make room by converting an office conference room into a bedroom.

The JRS Greece shelter provided safety, security, and hope for Aisha and Mahira.

Fr. Maurice accompanied Aisha not only through providing shelter, but also navigating a future in Greece, and enrolling Mahira in a JRS afterschool program which helped her to integrate into a local school.
