A Prayer for Creation

21 May 2020|Spiritual Reflection and Resources

May 2020 marks five years since the publication of Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home, an encyclical that invites us to care for both the poor and the earth.

As we reflect on this, we invite you to pray for creation and for those most impacted by environmental change, the forcibly displaced.

A Prayer for Creation

God of creation,

From the very beginning, you have called upon humanity to be stewards of creation.

You bestowed on us the responsibility to care for the earth, our common home.

May we renew our commitment to this calling not only through sustainable and ecologically conscious actions, but also through our concern for those who are displaced by environmental degradation.

As livelihoods waste away and competition for resources turns violent, may we recognize the plight of those affected by climate change and advocate for the protection of their rights.

May we shake away indifference and turn to action by holding ourselves accountable for our sisters and brothers seeking refuge as the environment around them changes.

Through our striving to make this earth a home for all, may we show the we are worthy of being called stewards of your creation.

Amen.

“There has been a tragic rise in the number of migrants seeking to flee from the growing poverty caused by environmental degradation. . . . We need to strengthen the conviction that we are one single human family. . . . The poor and the earth are crying out
