Germany is the top refugee hosting nation in Europe, with 970,400 refugees hosted by the end of 2017. The majority of these refugees have come from Syria, but others have fled from Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Eritrea.
Germany has not always hosted this significant a number of refugees. In recent years, the country has seen influx of refugees and asylum seekers crossing its boarders. While initially met with an outpouring of community support and funding, there has been some backlash throughout the country and negative rhetoric and actions taken towards refugees and asylum seekers in response.
Our Work in Germany
JRS Germany began in 1996. JRS Germany offers a variety of services to migrants and refugees in Bradenburg, Bavaria, Berlin, Essen, and Munich. Services include pastoral care for detained migrants, psychosocial support, legal assistance, temporary housing, supplemental education, and scholarships.
JRS Germany also participates in Advocacy – giving a voice to refugees and migrants in the German public, taking a stand on developments in refugee and asylum law, and advising communities that grant sanctuary to refugees.
