Basima, survivor of the Yazidi genocide in Sinjar 2014, suffered great loss. Her father, abducted and murdered by the Islamic State & her community, destroyed by the genocide of more than 5,000 Yazidi people.

Internalizing her pain and grief, Basima strived to move forward with her life. Once JRS opened the Sharya Community Center in Iraq, the psychosocial home visit team reached out to her family to offer their assistance.

Within the first year of attending, Basima began meeting with the psychologist and enrolled in being courses.

She learned a new craft, met friends, and found some relief.
