JRS/USA’s 2021 Advocacy Day
15 April 2021 at 12:00am
JRS/USA invites you to join us for our annual Advocacy Day on Thursday, April 15, 2021. This virtual event will provide you with the opportunity to learn about issues facing refugees and to encourage the new 117th Congress to take action on their behalf.
Amid a global pandemic and unprecedented levels of forced displacement, speaking out on behalf of refugees, both around the world and here in the US, is more important than ever. During JRS/USA’s Advocacy Day, we will encourage policymakers to provide critical humanitarian assistance to refugees overseas and welcome refugees and asylum seekers within our own borders.
JRS/USA will schedule virtual meetings with your members of Congress, prepare materials on all of the policy issues to be discussed, and host a webinar a week before Advocacy Day to review the issues in detail, discuss logistics, and answer any questions.
Here is a timeline to help you prepare:
- Friday, March 26 – Deadline to RSVP. We will use your home address to determine your congressional delegation, place you in groups, and schedule your meetings.
- Tuesday, April 6 – Talking points and Congressional bios will be shared with all registered participants.
- Thursday, April 8 (4pm ET) – JRS/USA will host a training webinar to discuss the format of Advocacy Day and review talking points to be delivered to Congressional offices.
- Thursday, April 15 – On Advocacy Day, you can anticipate having approximately 3-5 virtual meetings with Congressional offices throughout the day, between the hours of 10am-5pm ET.
We encourage all partners, supporters, and friends from Jesuit institutions across the US to join us for this event. If you have any questions, please contact Giulia McPherson at giulia.mcpherson@jrsusa.org or 202-629-5942.
