Take Action

Urge your members of Congress to support an Afghan Adjustment Act.

In August 2021, Afghanistan was plunged into chaos following the rapid collapse of the Afghan government and the subsequent takeover by the Taliban following the U.S. military withdrawal

Tens of thousands of at-risk Afghans were welcomed by the U.S. via a temporary immigration status known as humanitarian parole, which allows for urgent entry into the country without providing a clear path to permanent residency.

To resolve this temporary immigration status, advocates have been calling for the passage of the Afghan Adjustment Act. This legislation would grant Afghans with humanitarian parole the opportunity to apply for lawful permanent resident status, mirroring the process used for refugees.

Three years after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, we are still waiting for the passage of this legislation.

In July 2024, an updated version of the Afghan Adjustment Act, titled Fulfilling Promises to Afghan Allies Act, was proposed as an amendment (S.Amdt.2682) to the Senate’s National Defense Authorization Act (S.4638). This amendment has bipartisan support and would provide much needed relief to evacuated Afghans.

Please take a moment today to take action on behalf of our Afghan brothers and sisters by calling on your Senators to support the inclusion of the bipartisan Fulfilling Promises to Afghan Allies Act in the Senate’s National Defense Authorization Act.
