War and Displacement
The summer dawns with global cries for help and compassion. It was only a year ago that the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan, forcing more than 7 million people to flee their homes. This year, more than 12 million people have been forcibly displaced as Russia continues its violent attacks on Ukraine. In addition to Ukrainians, there are also students from Asia and Africa who want to leave the country as soon as possible to save their lives. Truly, war and conflict are afflicting more and more people in unimaginable ways.
Over the last 41 years, Jesuit Refugee Service has assisted millions of refugees in over 50 countries rebuild their lives in unfamiliar territory.
JRS provides humanitarian aid and welcome for refugees and displaced persons, as well as legal counsel, mental health and psychosocial support, livelihoods training, advocacy, and reconciliation.
We are committed to empowering refugees to become “people with a voice of their own,” working together with them to challenge systems that deny them their human rights.
